Setup & Installation

If you are using a Kantronics TNC, there are some extra settings that MUST be setup in order for UltimatePro to understand the data coming from the Kantronics TNC. These settings are included in the Upload KPC3/U2000 feature.

Once the software is installed gather all information needed for each of the remote weather sites. Latitude and Longitude values, if using a map, callsigns for MYCALL and MYREMOTE (Also a password for remote access)

Is the Ultimeter a U-II or U-2000? (Read all given instructions). Which serial port will the TNC be connected to? How often does the data need to be transmitted?

Now locate and run UltimatePro

1. Reset TNC by removing cover and place a piece of paper between battery and contact for 1 min.
2. Goto Settings, select Communications.
3. Select comm port and baud rate.
4. Select O.K.
5. Now turn on TNC
6. The TNC's info and cmd: prompt should show up in the Terminal Window.
7. If not, check cable connections and that the correct comm port is being used.
8. Once this is correct goto Settings, Configure KPC3/U2000 and follow instructions.
9. It is recommed that a slower baud rate be used for uploading settings.(300, 1200)
10. To do this type ABAUD 1200 at the cmd: prompt and turn TNC off.
11. Repeat steps 2 to 6
12. After uploading the TNC should be configured for remote operation with the Ultimeters
13. Repeat steps 1 to 13 for each additional remote station. Close the port after each configuration.
14. Connect TNC for use at the receiving station.
15. Do steps 1 to 6
16. It's recommended to use a baud rate of 9600 or higher for receiving station.
17. Goto Settings, Upload TNC Settings
18. Now the receiving stations TNC should be configured correctly.

The TNC settings for remote sites are read from the template file KPCU2000.TXT, Settings for the receiving TNC are read from the file TNCINI.TXT. These can be edited by UltimatePro as required. It may be wise to enter the contents of these files manually.
